Research
World class stroke research for the improvement of clinical practice.
Variety of original studies
Our research works are focused on stroke, which has been the most frequent disease in Akita prefecture. Development in the stroke research field will contribute to accurate diagnosis and effective therapy. Analysis of risk factors by epidemiologic method is useful for prevention of stroke. Advance in CT and MR imaging technique, as well as quantitative measurement of cerebral blood flow and metabolism using positron emission tomography, can elucidate the pathophysiology of cerebrovascular disease. Pathological study including cellular and amimal models has also been performed in this field. Neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease are also our research subjects. Findings originated from our studies are discussed among researchers at weekly conferences. A lot of original works have been published in world leading journals.
Clinical Practice
Latest stroke therapy supported by sophisticated staff.
Prompt and high quality
Stroke is an emergency disease. We try to diagnose patients and recognize the pathogenesis as soon as possible, and perform the best medical treatments aiming for the better prognosis. State-of-the-art equipments, such as 3T-MRI, area-detector CT and PET/CT, have been introduced for the clinical use. Moreover, in order to provide the newest treatments of acute stroke patients, we have made a comprehensive stroke management team conducted by the Department of Stroke Science in 1997. Numerous clipping operations of the cerebral aneurysms have been performed, contributing to the education of young doctors. Gamma Knife therapy as well as surgical treatments have been used for the treatment of brain tumors in the Department of Surgical Neurology. Neurologists also work earnestly on the diagnosis and treatments of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
Nursing
Expert stroke nurses support comprehensive team medication.
We have been applying the best and seamless nursing care from the acute period to recovery period of the diseases. Especially for the stroke patients, we provide the up-to-date nursing technique. Moreover, nurses carry a part of the team medication including doctors, dieticians and rehabilitation staff. They support the smooth recovery from disabled condition.
We perform the reliable care in which mutual trust with patients and families is regarded as the most important matter.
Facilities
Fine facilities contribute to the effective stroke therapy.
In the building with barrier free floor, there are a lot of helpful facilities, such as rehabilitation room, dayroom and information library, which support the hospital life of patients and families. Medical social workers provide the consultation service for medical treatments, as well. Moreover, the brain dock has been established aiming for the prevention of stroke. Our facilities support the brain diseases, in particular stroke, from various points of view.
